GENEROUS BOOST FROM WITNEY U3A

Witney U3A gave a generous £136 mid-March boost to branch funds, inspired by a recent talk on the RNLI by former RNLI Governor and U3A member Rhys Williams.

After the talk, described as "fabulous" by one senior member, many in the audience asked how they could give to the RNLI. As a result chair Dave Thompson was invited to the next meeting where he was also able to offer promo material and explain branch fundraising efforts as well as accepting donations.

"It was lovely to have such backing, "said Dave "I hope very much we can keep up the relationship as time goes by. "

In a great piece of serendipity, Dave and Rhys, who did not know each other, had happened to be in a Witney coffee shop just a few days earlier when Dave overheard Rhys talking nearby to a lady acquaintance and caught the magic words "RNLI."

Dave said: "I quickly introduced myself and then confirmed I could come to the next meeting but it was only by good chance I was in that particular coffee shop at all since I was about to leave as it looked too busy !"

Rhys is Emeritus Professor of Clinical Epidemiology based at Swansea University Medical School and served for 30 years as an RNLI Governor. Living near Witney, he has now kindly offered to help out on upcoming stalls in April and June.

BRANCH DEBUT

The U3A sum raised took the total for March to just under £600 after another successful stall outside Tesco in Faringdon and in more good news Saturday, July 26 has been confirmed for the branch's debut at the West Way Square shopping centre in Botley, Oxford.

Dave added: "2025 is going really well with lots to report on at the AGM on April 15."

**** Tesco takings were boosted on the day by six new "recruits" - especially knitted bobble hats, (see pix) courtesy of a friend and supporter, Helen "The first one went in the opening five minutes and overall they made £30 which is most welcome, " said Dave.
